Campaign Diary by Willaim Coit
Sunday, November 11, 2001This past weekend, the Georgia Republican Party officially kicked-off the 2002 election cycle with the Road to the Majority Conference at Callaway Gardens. This intensive two-day grassroots education and training seminar hosted over 850 Georgia Republicans, office holders and candidates.
Among the highlights were the appearances from: Congressman Roy Blunt, (R-MO), Deputy Majority Whip, US House of Representatives; JC Watts, (R-OK), House Republican Conference; Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President and CEO, National Rifle Association; Jack Oliver, Deputy Chairman, Republican National Committee; Dylan Glenn, Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, The White House; and Sean Hannity, Co-host of "Hannity and Colmes," Fox News.
The event was a coming out party for me. I shook over 200 hands and introduced my candidacy to officials within the party. My highlight was meeting Congressman J.C. Watts. We spoke on the importance of electing more republicans to office and the possibility of his office assisting my campaign. His speech centered on his background, his election, the passing of his father, and his "Watts Common Sense Politics". In his childhood, JC and his father would debate politics over the kitchen table. His father's politics was simple. It was based on using "common sense" in solving the problems of our country. (ex. Never spend more than you take in.) He would often wonder how some of the smartest men and women, once elected to office, could pass some of the worse laws ever written. All you have to do is apply some Watts Common Sense.
I left the conference feeling more confident and energetic about my candidacy. I will win this campaign because I am prepared, willing to serve, and the perfect person to represent the people of the 13th District. LOOK OUT FOLKS, THE WILLIAM COIT FOR CONGRESS TRAIN IS MOVING.
